The Grand Café is a pleasant place to take a break during your visit
to the museum.
You can drop in at any time between 11.00
and 16.30 for a cup of coffee, relaxed lunch or a quick snack.
The café’s location, facing into the museum’s sheltered courtyard garden,
means that in good weather you can sit outside and bask in the sun.
But it’s nice inside too. Designer Richard Hutten has set his stamp
on the interior of the café with the Berlage Chair he has designed
specially for the museum. And the playful lamps, a design classic
by the Dane Poul Henningsen, combine perfectly with the chair
and relieve the austerity of the space.

the Van Hengel family emerged as the best choice:
not a chair with vertical legs, but one in which the line of
the back extends through into the back legs.
Hutten was struck by this element and impressed by the clarity
of structure demonstrated by the entire design -
something he also strives to achieve in his own work ...
